Hi, there I’m Phoenix! I am a Mexican-American photographer and mixed media artist from central Mexico. I grew up in sunny Los Angeles, California. I am best known for my fine art, travel, and landscape photography. In addition to photography, I also paint, produce short videos and explore my creativity through different mediums.

My photography explores the intricacies of geometric shapes in landscapes, nature's complexity, and how it relates directly to our sense of being. A current subject of exploration is space and the microcosmos of our universe. You can really see this exploration in my astrophotography and long exposure work.

My passion for adventure is what inspires me to travel. I love learning, connecting, and appreciating other people’s cultures art, and food. Photography is a way to connect others to those experiences. My goal is to bring these to you through my work.

About the Artist: A Journey from Soledad to the City of Angels

Born in the heart of Central Mexico, in the quaint town of Soledad nestled within the diverse landscapes of San Luis Potosi, Phoenix carries within them the essence of a culture rich in tradition and deep-rooted history. The striking contrast within the state of San Luis Potosi serves as an indelible backdrop to Phoenix's artistic narrative, featuring a vibrant desert teeming with life, adorned by various cacti, Yuccas, and Joshua trees on one side, and just hours away, a lush green jungle with a tropical, humid climate, boasting waterfalls and breathtaking natural landscapes on the other.

In their formative years, Phoenix embarked on a journey that transcended borders, as their parents made the courageous decision to immigrate to Los Angeles, California. Growing up in the bustling City of Angels, Phoenix found inspiration in the kaleidoscope of cultures and the dynamic urban environment that surrounded them.

Acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Business and a certificate in marketing from the University of Phoenix in 2021, Phoenix brings a unique blend of business acumen and artistic finesse to their creative pursuits. Business and art coexist intrinsically within Phoenix, merging as one cohesive force. Recognizing that business is the backbone of any industry, Phoenix continues their academic pursuit in business, currently enrolled in a digital marketing Master's Program at Southern New Hampshire University.

Photography emerged as a primary medium of artistic expression, capturing moments that transcend time and speak to the soul. The lens became a powerful tool to navigate the cultural shift, preserving the essence of Phoenix's Mexican heritage while embracing the diverse influences of Los Angeles. Not bound by the confines of a single medium; they are a polyglot of artistic expression. Exploring various artistic languages, Phoenix finds that each medium is akin to speaking a different language, offering distinct channels to convey ideas, thoughts, and concepts. The creative journey becomes a linguistic exploration, where the amalgamation of photography, painting, and filmmaking serves as a harmonious conversation with the world.

My photography delves into the intricacies of geometric shapes in landscapes, unraveling nature's complexity and exploring its direct connection to our sense of being. The fascination with geometric forms is a recurring motif, intricately woven into Phoenix's artistic expression across photography and other mediums. This fascination is particularly evident in Phoenix's exploration of space and the microcosms of our universe, showcased vividly in their astrophotography and long exposure work.

Beyond the stillness of the visual arts, Phoenix breathes life into their creativity through the dynamic world of short films. Every frame tells a story, capturing the essence of their unique perspective on life, culture, and human connections.

With a keen eye for detail and an innate ability to capture the gracious beauty of nature, Phoenix has become a wanderer, traveling to new places, exploring new landscapes, and freezing the ephemeral moments of natural splendor. The fusion of traditional Mexican aesthetics with the urban vibrancy of Los Angeles manifests in Phoenix's art creating a visual symphony that resonates with both nostalgia and contemporary energy.

Currently residing in the suburbs of Los Angeles with their girlfriend, two small dogs, and a cat, Phoenix embraces the harmonious balance between academic pursuits, artistic endeavors, and the warmth of home. Through Phoenix's lens, we glimpse the beauty of cultural duality, where tradition and modernity dance in harmony, echoing the spirit of a true artist on a perpetual quest for self-discovery and creative expression.

Artist Statement

As a landscape and travel photographer, my ethos extends beyond capturing the breathtaking scenes of nature. It embraces a holistic approach that values not only the pristine landscapes but also the vibrant cultures that coexist with them. In my photographic journey, I immerse myself in local communities, savoring the richness of their cuisine and embarking on adventurous exploits to truly understand and connect with people.

Exploring the diverse tapestry of cultures is an integral part of my narrative. Through the lens, I aim to showcase not just the physical beauty of a location but also the stories etched in the faces of its inhabitants. Sharing in the joy of local traditions and tasting the flavors of regional cuisines enriches my travel experiences, and I believe it's essential to portray these aspects alongside the awe-inspiring landscapes.

By celebrating the intersection of nature and culture, I hope to convey a deeper message—one that encourages appreciation for the interconnectedness of humanity and the environment. Through my photography, I seek to inspire others to engage with the world in a way that fosters a genuine connection with both the people who call it home and the natural wonders that make it extraordinary. Together, let us not only preserve the beauty of our planet but also cherish the diverse cultures that contribute to its enchanting mosaic.
